Traditional Chitrali guitar ( sithar), drum (dol), folk pipe (bellu) and daf
together generate the heart touching music, which mostly have the lyrics linked
to old folk stories. These sugar coated songs always echo on every occasion of
joy in Chitral and make everyone overwhelmed by fantasy.
A sharp sour green herb grows on the steep mountains of
Chitral called “Ishpaar” in Chitrali, occasionally eaten with pinch of salt to
add a plus in its vinegary taste.

Chitrali snack “Shishar” made from dough of plain flour, sugar and oil
is rolled on a flour strainer to have these striking dotted patterns on it and
lastly deep fried till golden red color and dish up with tea. Shishar is also
stored for several days and enjoyed from time to time with tea. It’s also an
add-on of cheerful occasions like wedding, birth and Novroz. Young girls gather
on happy events and enjoy making Shishar in bulky quantity and serve up to
guests particularly to children
